Biomedical engineering (BME) is a discipline that applies engineering principles and design concepts to medicine and biology for healthcare purposes. Seeking to close the gap between engineering and medicine, this field combines the design and problem solving skills of engineering with medical and biological science to advance healthcare treatment, 诊断, 治疗, 仪表, 和技术. 课程, administered by the 工程学院, carries a heavy focus on fundamental engineering principles, requiring six core courses in this area.
